Fees

Insurance commission clawback

If you cancel or close a life, disability or health insurance policy within 24 months of it starting, the insurer may claw back some or all of the commission it paid Moneyplant. If that happens because the policy was cancelled or materially reduced within the clawback period, Moneyplant may charge you a one-off fee equal to the amount clawed back.

KiwiSaver advice fee

If a provider doesn't offer an adviser fee rebate, an advice fee applies on top of their standard fees. This covers tailored advice and ongoing service. For Kernel Wealth, this is 0.25% a year.

Commissions

Insurance

Moneyplant may receive a commission from the insurer when your policy starts, typically between 0% and 230% of the first year's premium. It may also receive an ongoing commission of 0% to 10% of the annual premium each year the policy renews.

KiwiSaver

Moneyplant may receive an upfront commission of $0 to $300, depending on the transfer balance and your PAYE income, and an ongoing commission of 0% to 0.5% of your balance each year.

Conflicts of interest and other incentives

We act in your best interests. While we have professional relationships with product providers, your interests come first. From time to time:

  • Product providers may contribute to conferences and professional development training for our advisers.
  • We may receive referrals from real estate agents or other professionals, and may refer you to others for fire and general insurance or related services. In some cases, a referral fee may be paid or received.

How we manage conflicts

  • We follow a structured advice process, so recommendations suit your goals and circumstances.
  • Our advisers are regularly trained on managing conflicts of interest.
  • We keep registers of conflicts of interest and of gifts and incentives received, and review them regularly.
  • We have an independent compliance assurance review every year.

Our duties to you

Under the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 (sections 431I, 431K, 431L and 431M), we must:

  • meet the standards of competence, knowledge and skill set out in the Code of Professional Conduct
  • give priority to your interests
